Guidelines

If you have weaving and spinning equipment you would like to donate to the guild, please contact us. We consider each piece of equipment offered on an individual basis based on available space and needs of guild members in the studio. Our goal is to be able to offer both new and experienced weavers the opportunity to use looms they do not have at home, or looms they can use efficiently in a workshop environment.

Equipment & Tools for Weaving & Spinning

We accept items in good working condition. Items should be clean and free of rust, fibre, or their last project.

  • Weaving Equipment: floor looms of all sizes, table looms, frame looms, and pin looms.

  • Tools: shuttles, bobbins, ball winders, swifts, temples, warping boards, and hand cards.

  • Spinning Equipment: spinning wheels in good working condition. No display wheels or wheels without flyers. Antique wheels are only considered if they are in working condition.

  • Yarns/Fibre: We accept weaving yarns, handspun yarn, and knitting/crochet/multi-purpose yarn.

Books & Media

  • We accept literature related to weaving, spinning, creativity/design, dyeing, and felting.

  • Books are welcome in good condition.

  • We accept most magazines if in good condition, including VÄV, Handwoven, Spin Off, Little Looms and Weavers Journal.

  • Select items may be added to the guild resource library. If not needed in the library, they may be offered to our members in return for a guild donation.

We acknowledge that the land we gather on, Mohkinsstsis, is the ancestral territory of the Siksikaitsitapi — the Blackfoot people — comprising the Siksika, Kainai and Piikani Nations, as well as Treaty 7 signatories, the Tsuut’ina Nation, and the Îyârhe Nakoda Bearspaw, Chiniki and Goodstoney First Nations. Today this land is home to the Metis of Region 3 as well as many First Nations and Inuit peoples from across Turtle Island. We acknowledge that there has been art, music, dance, storytelling and ceremony on this land since time immemorial and it is in the spirit of this land and its people that we do our work.
