OUR STORY

IMG_0110_edited.jpg

The Heritage Weavers and Spinners Guild of Calgary (HWSG), incorporated in 1978, is a group of artisans passionate about spinning, weaving, felting, dyeing, and other fiber arts. Our mission extends beyond creating beautiful textiles to preserving long-standing traditions, educating the public, and fostering community connections.

At HWSG's core is a dedication to keeping the ancient arts of spinning, weaving, felting, and dyeing alive and fostering appreciation and understanding in the community. We strive to inspire ourselves and others, especially people new to the field, to explore the creative potential of all the fibre arts.

The guild’s studio is a place of learning and growth. HWSG serves as an educational forum, exploring both modern techniques and historical traditions. Seasoned artisans share their expertise with newcomers, expanding skills through workshops, demonstrations, and lively discussions. We are a community bound by shared passion.

Members find inspiration and encouragement, exchanging ideas, challenging boundaries, celebrating successes, and supporting each other through challenges. Through annual sales, demonstrations, open houses, and exhibitions, HWSG proudly shares our craft with the public, inviting others to experience the world of fiber arts. As the wheels turn and the shuttles fly, the Heritage Weavers and Spinners Guild of Calgary continues to weave a tapestry of tradition, education, and community.
